630am, 29 Oct 2010, SOPHIA has finally reached the ABC- Annapurna Base Camp at an elevation of 4130m!
Wow! It's inhuman to wake up at 4am in the morning. Really. Literally became a walking zombie. Zzzz... As usual, the altitude kills my stamina. Literally, killed, hanged, slaughtered... It was a cold morning (say 3-4 deg) , but thankfully it wasn't windy as the route to ABC was shielded by the mountains. Ok, take back my words, either the goretex jacket (sponsored by M3) is super duper good at breaking the winds or it is very warm to wear. Haha.. Take ur pick!! But am glad, only my stamina got broken down by the altitude, not the spirit. Thankfully, the guide, Mallang, took my bag so that I could continue the trek. Hehe...
The moonlight kept the route very bright. It was a 2 hr trek before we saw civilization- Annapurna Base Camp!!!!!!! The excitement was unimaginable!! Really... I have dreamt and dreamt about this day for a long long long long long LLLOOONNNNNGGGG time. Think it's been like 5 years since I started thinking about coming up ABC and 2 years to build up my stamina (my half and full marathons) Hehe... Saw the Annapurna South, fish tail (Machapuchare), Annapurna I and Himchuli at very close view. I don't have what it takes to scale such peaks so this is the best that I can do for myself.
Only spent like 15 minutes outdoors.... I didn't bring proper gloves so my fingers had turned purple by then. Think probably the toes as well. Had a quick breakfast at a teahouse and proceeded down.
It was mostly downhill all the way from ABC to Himalaya. Same way back. Guess there isn't too much to blog about. Am very glad that the teahouse has a HOT water shower! Finally, can brush my teeth, wash my face, bathe properly.
