With all our barangs barangs at the trek start point... waiting for our porters..
Donkeys are the main means of transportation at lower altitudes. We frequently have to stop for these animals as they deliver gas, food, drinks to the various teahouses...
The starting point is around 1.5hrs drive from Pokhara at this place called Birethani. Slept throughout as the road was incredibly bumpy. We reached pretty early and had to wait for the porters to arrive.
The start of the trek was really pleasant. Pretty flat with the snowcap "fish tail" in great visibility. Barely 2 hrs later, we stopped for a lunch break at a teahouse. My 1st encounter of how slow food is served in Nepal. Tip: we told not to eat meat throughout the trek as the freshness of the meat is questionable. Meat products are usually imported from Pokhara and it takes days to bring the food up the mountain on donkeys. And even for chickens, it's gross how they handle it. Think my parents will be quite proud of me for being vegetarian in the mountains for 10 days. Haha...
After lunch, the trek was a fierce accent. No joke. Not helping that I chionged the initial part of the trek and got really tired after 15 mins. Haha... Thankfully for the long herds of donkeys, that I got my break. After that I moderated myself mentally that I should slow down, relax and enjoy the trek instead. Slow and steady... Yup! It took awhile to moderate that mentality before I started to look around and realised the beauty of the mountain range. That made the tiredness go away and miraculously I stopped panting as well. Anyway, the teahouse that we lodged for the night was brilliant. Cement house ie heat gets trap in the house. FYI, there are no heaters and hot water is only available during daylight. No thanks to us starting the trek so late, we didn't get hot water by the time we arrive. Zzz..
Anyway, dinner was quite a long wait which I hate it!! So cold, tired and hungry. What can be worse? Dinner was a bowl of hot soup, chow mien and rice. Haha... Great meal for a good night's rest. Hehe...
