Day 1 (part II)- Vung Tau City, Vietnam

STX Vietname Grand Opening and Ship Naming Ceremony
The norgies..
The lady in the middle is called "THE GODMOTHER" haaha.. totally mafia -style...
onboard the Skandi Emerald The damn HUGE towing winch... think this vessel can easily pull more than 250T..
As it's diesel-electric, everything in there is like driving a spaceship.. ahahha.. totally computer- integrated system.. nice!
wow wow wow...
The sister vessel...
The Skandi Emerald... hope she will sail safely for the rest of her life..
It's been a mad rush since this morning. 5.15am all the way till now.. 1202.pm.... :) the start of my holiday.

This trip is part sponsored by company. Air tickets and 1st night accommodations paid for. Price: To attend the STX yard opening, Skandi Emerald's ship naming and the gala dinner to end it all.

Woke up at 5.15am to be in time for my 730am Jetstar flight to HCM city. KAOZ... it's the MOST uneventful flight EVER! Noisy aunties, uncle who kept KICKING my chair, flight stewardess who yell at everyone... goodness.. and at the end of the flight, this stupid girl beside me switched on her phone while the plane was cruising in the airport and IT RANG! wah lau.. ended up, I got told off by the flight stewardess 'cos I was caught holding my phone (WITHOUT IT BEING SWITCHED ON). Basket... I really really hate it when people just jump at your neck without investigating.

Was picked up by STX's driver and another passenger. Proceeded with our 3hour journey to Vung Tau City. Wah lau.. Vietnamese really drive DAMN slowly lah.. 120km niah.. and need to take 3 hours... kaoz...

Came here. Checked into this super huat hotel, Impertial Hotel, 5 STAR! I totally love the French- theme of this hotel. Everything so intricate. I will take more photos tomorrow on the walkway, exterior... aiyoh... my 1st time.. ahahhaha...

Yard opening was really boring. I ended up sitting beside this Director from the local port authorities. Think he was very excited to practise his English with me. But there was this really cute, young Finance director from the yard. *sigh* never really get to talk to him though. The ceremony was mostly attended by Vietnamese and Norwegians. Total language barrier for me.

"Skandi Emerald" is the 1st vessel this yard has built. 16000bhp , DP2, Clean Design, Green Technology. Goodness.. Totally huat! It's really really nice in there, compare to the chinese vessels that I have seen. OMG. China has a LONG way to catch up. I am not being neo-colanist (not sure if there's such a word). But I really really think that the ang mohs way of doing things has some form of "standard", compared to Chinese. I have spent all my work life working with ang mohs and I really enjoyed it a lot (despite having to speak Queen's english half the time). I like it when they are so demanding (just like me!) and will ngiao me if my work standard is not good enough. I think it really helps me to grow a lot in terms of my work attitude. Whereas, when I work with Chinese, standards always seem shady, comprised in some sense and efficiency, money will take over everything.

ANyway, gala was quite good lah.. got prawns & smoked salmon for cold dish, shark fin for soup (haha.. I was quite entertained how the ang mohs looked so grossed out), small lobster for 1st main dish, beef tenderloin for 2nd main dish and home made tiramisu. YUM!

It's been quite eventful lah... but even better, all the time, I was counting down to my holiday! ENOUGH ABOUT WORK!!! AS 12.02AM, 29th April, my 4 days holiday in Vietnam just started!! Check out for the entries over the next few days!!!
