Woke up super early to see the sunrise at Borobudur. Yeah, we paid premium prices just to do that!! Zzz... Luckily, we caught the audio- visual presentation the day before and didn't see the need to hire a guide! *phew* no one knows who built this temple or anything but what was interesting was that there are 2 other temples within the 10k radius of Borobudur that pilgrims in the past needed to pay homage to. The ancient relics on each wall contains a different story that buddha wanted to teach/ enlighten his disciples. Interesting philosophies... And with each stupas, there is a statue of buddha in it but the biggest stupa didn't contain anything at all.. Perhaps it is meant to say that nothingness is a form of perfection? ( I not so wise.. This was quoted from the audio visual presentation).
The walk around each layer of Borobudur was pleasant as it was barely dawn. Thus, it wasn't hot and humid at all.
Anyway, after breakfast, had a nap and we checked out of the hotel. Took a horse carriage (IDR 15k) to the bus terminal. And given how we were "carrot-headed" for the 1st 4 days, we got wiser somewhat. Bus ride back to the city was only IDR 10k, compared to the 20k we paid to get there. Haha.. And shanli found out that the other tourists on the bus paid 15K! Hahaha...
Checked into our accommodations for the last night in Yogyakarta City; Ministry of Coffee!!! Rooms were fantastic!!! "Ikea-type decor with a splash of homecoming". What was even better was the coffee and desserts! Yummy~~ I have been having a Cafe Latte longing since I came to Indonesia.. I am tired of drinking Rubusta coffee day in, day out. Give me Arabica anytime please...
Spent the rest of the noon just hanging around and huating the supermarket. Haha.. Ya, toiletries and food are cheap over there!! Haha... dinner was disappointing. We used lonely planet and tried their recommended restaurants but food was crap.
That is probably the end of my trip updates... It's been an enjoyable. Trip, except for the work emails that had to tear me away from enjoying myself sometimes... *sigh*
And as usual, I am always glad to travel with these folks. They have no doubt tolerated all my nonsensical blabbering for 6 days! Haha.. Aiya, what is friends for.. And I am damn sure they have enjoyed themselves as well... Hahaha...
One big lesson learnt: I will never ever allow myself to be carrot-headed again!!!
Warm Regards,
Sophia Low
