Wow! POOH also can shut well in....

Yup, someone died at ophir a few days back. Nope, I don't know him. I only knew him as zowie's friend, a teacher-to-be. Mt Ophir was the hill that gave me a really memorable trek twice. Twice I have been there, nothing good happened. So I stayed away from that hill ever since. It's a sacred place anyway...
Anyhow, what I thought might have been a boring day today, turned out to be extremely exciting. Though I think only my colleagues would appreciate it. But I have to tell you how exhilarating it was, like watching the Dow Jones falling and rising sort of excitement. In the mud logging unit, there are at least 10 screens that monitor the well. Real time data, Lag time data, trend charting etc... so this morning we saw losses into the formation and we shut in the well in. In the afternoon, while JS and I were on coffee break, we heard rising gas levels from 5%, 10%, 15%, then we went back to the unit. After 5 mins more, the gas levels was at 30%. It is mostly made up methane gas....(the next 2 paragraphs are the details of the events so just skip it if you don't understand)
JS (yes, that columnist) and I were at the mud logging unit since 6am. We got updated of the previous night activities. At 3118m (open hole), one of the 2 top drive motors failed. They found it to be flooded with water. So they decided to pull out the drill string to the casing shoe at 2936m . At about 9am when almost the entire mud logging unit went for coffee break, the first sign of trouble occured. The active mud pit volume started to plunge. It was going at 32l/min. Shut the well in after we lost 8 cubic metres.
later in the noon, JS and I left for coffee break at about 3pm. 10 mins later, we heard announcements that we have rising gas levels. 5%, 10%... we went back to the unit at 15%. That's when everyone was panicking whether to shut the well in or not. They finally shut the well in at 30%. hahaha....
It was definitely an exciting day! =P
oh... JS is starting to feel emo liao... ya, in a 28 days hitch, we all tend to experience the initial excitement for day 1-5, then start to get comfortable while settling down into the 12 hour shift for day 5-10...... day 10-15 would be lowest point where you start feeling tired, missing home, getting depressed that u still have 2 weeks more to go... day 15-20, u get absorbed back into work and will lose track of the date and time... and the finally countdown will start on the last week...
the typical symptoms I noticed today. Stoning amidst all the excitement, lethargy, slow reaction. hahah... he admitted it himself. Oh well... our countdown is becoming a single digit soon! Hope he will get better after a few days.
